Chirlane McCray, wife of New York City Mayor Bill DeBlasio, announced the completion of a privately-funded effort to repair homes damaged by Hurricane Sandy in 2012, the Daily News reported (see: "More than 500 homes wrecked by Hurricane Sandy now fixed through Neighborhood Revitalization program," by Erin Durkin). "The effort, known as Neighborhood Revitalization NYC Home Repair Program, brought in $19.8 million in private donations. Over two years, 501 severely damaged homes where 1,494 people live have been repaired," the paper reported. "Most of the residents couldn’t get federal aid because they lacked flood insurance or aren’t citizens."
