In a recent post in THISisCarpentry, Aaron Telian gives us the details on construction an elaborate octagon ceiling that included both flat 2×8 ash beams along the ceiling, and 8×8 arched beams that spring from corbels mounted on columns on the walls.

The four beams bisecting the quarters were the hardest, but we worked out a fairly reliable method using a torpedo level and a piece of scrap ripped on a bevel.
