Scientists at the KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Sweden have created transparent wood. The study leader, Lars Berglund, said his team had to take out the wood's lignin to remove the wood's natural brown coloring. To make the material clear, Berglund's team added a transparent polymer to the wood.
The team says the next step in the process will be getting the transparent wood ready for mass production. It's possible, Berglund thinks, the new material could be an eco- and budget-friendly alternative to glass in the future.
