• 84 Lumber Expands into the FSC-Certified Wood Market, Selling Eco-Friendly Products

  Twenty-six locations operated by 84 Lumber Co., one of the nationís leading lumber dealers, now are selling Forest Stewardship Council (FSC)-certified wood. The FSC Chain of Custody Certification ensures that wood products meet the organizationís rigid standards from raw materials through processing, transformation, manufacturing, and distribution. The FSC, whose board includes lumber companies and dealers and environmentalists, coordinates the development of forest management standards throughout the United States.

  The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) opened the first public comment period on LEED 2009 this week, marking the third phase of the commercial green building rating system that was launched in 2000. According to the organization, LEED 2009 will address improving energy efficiency, reducing carbon emissions, and other environmental and human health concerns.

  The NAHB honored 17 building industry professionals and companies who excelled in green home building practices in 2007, during the Green Building Awards ceremony at the organizationís 10th annual National Green Building Conference.

  Bourbon Street, beignets, beads, and, now, builders. Green building pros from across the nation will descend on New Orleans this weekend for the NAHBís 10th annual Nation Green Building Conference. The association expects more than 1,500 builders to show up for this yearís conference, which will take place May 10-13, besting last yearís conference in St. Louis by about 400 attendees.
