John McCaleb came to Tucson from Chicago almost 25 years ago knowing "just enough about remodeling to be dangerous," he recalls. His operation has evolved from a custom home spec builder to a high-end remodeling company that specializes in delivering projects "with a certain feel" to his clients.
"If we have a specialty," he says, "it's making places look like they've been around a long time," he says. His company shines, McCaleb says, "in our finishes and in our ability to make things high quality and high class."
McCaleb Construction completed 76 projects last year, ranging from $18,000 to $925,000. The company does as much of the work in-house as possible. "It's one of the things that makes us costlier, but it gives the high-end client peace of mind," McCaleb says.
