For Danny Feig-Sandoval (back row, fourth from left), the idea of teamwork involves living in a community and caring about employees, customers, and the environment. He bikes to his office and some jobsites and limits the range of his jobs based on a combination of management and environmental concerns. "If I were a large company, I could not provide the kind of attention my jobs require," he says.

A few years ago, the remodeler hired a consultant to interview all his employees to establish the core values of the company. The consultant told him his employees wanted to build relationships and have their quality work reflected through those relationships. Feig-Sandoval and his staff work hard to fit designs into their customer's budget and like to work as a team all the way from design through construction. The study helped the staff focus on the company's goals. "You can't sell yourself unless you're clear on who you are," Feig-Sandoval says.
