When Nick Perez Sr. (center) started his business, its focus was on installing roofs and siding. Growing up, his sons Adam (left) and Nick Jr. (right) worked at the company during summer breaks and later full-time. They became partners six years ago, and the company’s range of services has expanded to include kitchen and bath remodels, large renovations and additions, window replacement, and, most recently, sunrooms.

Each line has a dedicated installation team, with Nick Jr. overseeing production. “With crews doing the same thing,” he says, “they can get better and more proficient.” He’s creating an operations manual for each service type and he personally works with each new field employee.

General manager Adam uses open-book management to help employees understand the company’s new bonus system, which provides a bonus for each employee, including office staff. “It has streamlined our process and solidified the team,” he says.

The Perezes hold an annual company meeting where they ask employees to identify yearly as well as long-term objectives. “We give them the map and tools to accomplish those goals,” Adam says. “Knowing that people are committed to those goals helps us direct the company.”
