About 50% of KRT Construction’s work is larger remodeling projects, with the rest split between new-home construction and light commercial work. Most residential clients come to KRT for its design/build services. Kent Therkelsen and his draftsperson present 3-D drawings to clients in the company’s 2,800 square-foot office/showroom.
• KRT lists about 300 past clients on its website. “My hope is that they [potential clients] know someone on the list,” Therkelsen says.
• Therkelsen says the easiest part of his job is employee management. The company’s benefits package — paid holidays and vacation, health insurance, 401(k) with 3% matching, and performance bonuses — is designed to retain staff.
• This year the company anticipates 20% overall growth with additional revenue from new construction and light-commercial jobs.
• KRT recently hired an estimator with a commercial background.
