Daniel Builders is on a path of continuous improvement. In January, the nearly decade-old company restructured to become a design/build firm. The company was previously a handyman service before moving to larger projects which they quoted only for clients. While the new business model is still in its infancy, it’s already starting to see positive changes.

“It’s been a good fit for us,” says co-owner Daniel Jachens. He and his team grew tired of the old model, Jachens says, and it did not work for all of their customers. Before, the team was unable to be specific with their quotes, since they were not sure what kinds of finishes and design selections homeowners would choose. Now that the company has adopted the design/build model, it is able to guarantee its costs to the homeowner.

“When we give the customer a quote, that is our cost,” Jachens says. “If something is more expensive than we anticipated, that falls on us.”

Jachens has also been focusing on improving the company’s sales process. He has taken Sandler Sales training and is working on refining his sales strategy. This includes making sure that he’s attracting the right customer. He adds that he is working on processes to find customers who want to work with the company right off the bat, so that his team avoids “chasing people that don’t want to work with us.”

Chasing that improvement is also true for Jachens’ customers. “We offer satisfaction guaranteed,” he says. “If the customer isn’t happy, we will work until they are happy.” The firm also offers a lifetime workmanship warranty for as long as the customers own the home.
