A former Colorado contractor has been sentenced to 20 years in prison after being found guilty of stealing approximately $150,000 from more than a dozen homeowners in northern Colorado, The Denver Channel reports.
The contractor, who was convicted in August of nine counts of theft, was sentenced Thursday. Prosecutors say the 46-year-old collected money from clients as a down payment for materials but never finished the jobs he started.
He scammed 15 victims between November 2014 and August 2017.
Andrew Brown, Weld County's deputy district attorney, says, "We're certain that this prison sentence the judge handed down will protect the community from further exploitation."
