Four former employees are suing Leafguard Holdings, claiming they were wrongfully terminated due to their efforts to report potential OSHA violations, the Cook County Record reports. The group filed a complaint, claiming violations of the Occupational Safety and Health Act and the Illinois Whistleblower Act, as well as alleging unsafe work practices, retaliation, and wrongful termination against the gutter-system installation company.
According to the complaint, the four plaintiffs were employed as lead installers by Leafguard Holdings until they were terminated in April 2019. The suit alleges the defendant failed to keep the plaintiffs up to date on their OSHA training and certification and allegedly instructed the plaintiffs to work in a manner that was contrary to OSHA.
When the plaintiffs said they questioned the work environment, they alleged they were threatened with termination if they did not perform what they were told to do. The men said they were all terminated April 16, after a compliance officer allegedly conducted an investigation of the defendant's practices.
The plaintiffs seek trial by jury, compensatory damages, punitive damages, economic damages, attorney fees, court costs and other relief.
