With homeowners increasingly looking online for design inspiration in the home improvement process, online marketplaces offering such inspiration have been able to flourish. Several marketplaces exist that allow homeowners to shop for looks, connect with contractors, and even finance and plan a renovation project entirely online. One such home design website, Hunker, has opened a brick-and-mortar showroom as an extension of its online tools, Forbes reports.
Hunker's online profile contains a mix of DIY guides, design news, and design features. Hunker is a "first-timer friendly, no expert necessary" platform, according to Forbes, with the aim of providing homeowners design tips and solutions to allow them to complete projects themselves. The brand opened the Hunker House, a brick-and-mortar location that is an extension of many of its online offerings.
"We wanted to create a physical embodiment of the Hunker identity: a headquarters where the helpful meets the inspirational for real people designing real spaces," editor in chief of Hunker Eve Epstein said. "Hunker House isn’t a pop-up, but a permanent platform for telling culturally relevant stories and working with like-minded partners.”
Far beyond your run-of-the-mill showroom that is supposed to look like a home, but never feels remotely homey, Hunker House is where Hunker will bring all of its design obsessions to reality while still appearing achievable for consumers.
A spot for “learning, creating, experimenting, and celebrating,” they plan to host workshops, panels, and intimate industry events in the space where they will highlight their partners like Blu Dot, Dims, Sonos, Armadillo & Co., Bend, Floyd, Hem, Year & Day, Ettitude, Luma Sleep, Society6 and Saatchi Art, as well as local artisans and brands.
