Southern Pine Prices Rising in 2017

From framing to structural panels, the price of lumber has increased in recent weeks, with some prices rising more than 30%. Southern pine 2x10s have increased in cost by 20% in the month of February. Though price increases have leveled off lately, more of the same can be expected later in the spring and summer, according to David Logan, director of tax policy analysis at NAHB. He says that the root of these price increases is the long-running dispute between Canada and the U.S. regarding softwood lumber imports to the United States, and the recent expiration of the Softwood Lumber Agreement (SLA) of 2005.
