
Following the September 14 collapse of a double-decker deck in Wildwood, New Jersey during a state firemen's convention that injured twenty people, local officials in the Jersey Shore communities of Wildwood Crest, Wildwood and North Wildwood have sent out a letter to property owners recommending that they inspect their decks for structural problems.
The inspections aren't mandatory, nor does the letter mention that the inspections be done by qualified professionals, but it does acknowledge that the accelerated deterioration of framing members and hardware in these coastal communities is a cause for public concern, and offers some guidance on what kinds of problems property owners should look for on their decks.
