A condo owner with a rooftop deck noticed unusual spots on her ipe deck tiles. The Washington Post's Jeanne Huber consulted with both the manufacturer (Bison) and an expert at the Center for Wood Anatomy Research at the Forest Products Laboratory in Madison, Wisc., to diagnose the problem and to come up with a solution. It's likely that something was spilled on the tiles prior to installation. The fix? A careful application of Messmer's Wood Cleaner and Brightener, to avoid damage to the waterproofing membrane beneath the elevated deck tiles.
