As Glenn Mathewson reminds us in his latest report on Committee Action Hearings for changes to the next edition of the International Residential Code, the approval process is a marathon, not a sprint. At this point, says Mathewson, NADRA and Deck Code Coalition proposals are looking like a good bet for final approval, but are still subject to modification during the current public comment period, which ends July 24, 2019. Afterward, all proposals get reviewed at the final committee hearings, and then are voted up or down by a select group of ICC members. The key takeaway: If the committee result for a proposal is not challenged by July 24th, consider it done. If there is something you don’t like, silence is equivalent to support. So speak up now, or forever (...well, until the next code cycle anyway...) hold your peace.
