A concrete walking surface doesn't have to look dull, as this video of a stamped concrete installation shows. The video is part of a new This is Carpentry article by Gary Katz that talks about the Greene & Greene-inspired facelift of the front entrance to his little house in southern Oregon. The article itself goes into a lot of detail about the genesis of the design, and if you're a fan of Craftsman architecture you'll enjoy the discussion. But the project is a work in progress, while concrete sub Dana Porter and his crew have already finished the first part of the job: replacing the original cracked and heaved concrete patio with a colorful stamped concrete upgrade. In the video (embedded toward the end of the TIC article), Dana explains in detail the process of adding color to the slab and then imprinting it with stamps so that it will resemble natural stone.
