Careful planning and preparation are vital for any detailed finish work to achieve its desired effect. The designers, carpenters, electricians and drywall contractor all must be working from the same playbook to have a successful outcome.

The first step was to plaster the ceiling, including turning the plaster down the inside corners at the perimeter.

The bottom corner of the ceiling and the 2x4 are covered with plasterboard.

The width of the valance plasterboard defines the opening for the light.

The valance plasterboard is finished off with corner bead on the outside and a stop bead at the top of the valance. Care is taken to ensure the bead is both level and straight.

The plasterers returned to finish plastering the ceiling and walls before paint.
