Some homeowners apparently didn't realize their roofs had been damaged in the storm until the rainy season arrived and their roofs began leaking.
"We're getting calls and inspectors are going out and telling them, 'Yes, this is hurricane damage,'" says Michelle Grojean, marketing director at Crown Roofing. The company has offices in several southwestern Florida cities.
Local roofers have been unable to keep up with calls for repairs. That's true of all roofers in the area, not just Crown Roofing offices.
Grojean called the situation a "never ending hamster wheel" of homeowners who need help. "We call back every customer," she said. "There is a line."
Under Florida law, homeowners have three years to file a claim, so homeowners who were slow to realize they needed repairs should not suffer financially. More than 600,000 claims were filed over damage from the storm, according to one report.
The 2018 hurricane season opened on June 1 and will run through November.
