In this video, Rob Robillard of Tool Box Buzz checks out Makita's new cordless 18-volt XPK02Z planer, which is powered by a brushless motor that can run at up to 12,000 RPM to plane up to 3-1/4″ wide and 1/8″ deep in a single pass. One of the planer's unique features is an automatic speed change function, where the tool will automatically adjust cutting speed and torque under load. When the load is low, the tool runs in “high-speed mode,” for quick stock removal. When the cutting load is high, the tool runs in the “high torque mode,” for more power. An LED light on the body of the tool lights up when in high torque mode, and blinks if the planer is overloaded. More
