Deck Railing Options with Mike Guertin
Besides meeting code, deck railings should look good. Mike Guertin explains what the structural requirements are for a code-compliant railing system in this PDB Zone presentation, recorded live at the Deck Expo in Baltimore last fall. Guertin covers familiar ground, such as how to build a wood railing system to the proper dimensions using well-executed connection details. He also talks about a new vertical cable railing system from Fortress, which eliminates concerns that some clients may have about horizontal cable railing. Perhaps best of all, Guertin explains his neat trick for laying out balusters so that they are evenly spaced, which relies on a length of non-roll elastic fabric tape instead of a calculator.
