In this installment of Project 171, Tim Uhler and his crew break down their approach to framing the main floor walls. As he explains in the video, his team's approach to framing exterior walls is to do as much to those walls as they can before lifting them into place, because minimizing ladder work is more productive, safer, and easier on the body. Whether it is pre-attaching rim, building the fireplace roof, or adding guard rails for fall protection, this work goes faster when working on a flat surface. Uhler says that framers are most productive when they don't have to come back to finish something off, and while this method of work takes a lot of planning at first, it gets faster with time.
