After a roof cleaning company blasted the color off a tile roof near Fort Myers, Fla., the owner called the roofer, Latite Roofing and Sheet Metal, which got the manufacturer, Entegra Roof Tile involved. The consensus was that the roof cleaners used too much pressure on the roof tiles and blasted off the slurry coating that had given tiles the bright finish. There are two types of concrete tiles used on roofs: "Color through" tiles which have a matte finish and "slurry coated" tiles which are bright and shiny. In the Florida sun, the slurry coating bakes and oxidizes, and will eventually come off. The roof cleaners only accelerated what would have happened eventually. Read more
