Resetting a satellite dish has turned into a big problem for one Florida roofing business ("$12K roof turns into frustration drip by drip").

While there's considerable debate about the best way to approach this (particularly if an insurance company is footing the bill), it increasingly looks like the best way to go is to leave the job to the satellite TV provider. (see "Roofing Talk: Let's Talk Satellite Dishes"). Going this route will require good communication to schedule your job with the satellite provider so as to prevent the customer from going without their dish for too long.

If you do take on removing and resetting the dish, don't pierce the shingle surface with lag bolts. This voids any shingle manufacturers warranty. The better solution is a mounting system, such as CommDeck, which can be flashed with the shingles above.
