Thick Skin. I recently bought a few pairs of NFK14 Duro Task Plus gloves from North Safety Products; they're quite comfortable. They're also inexpensive, and the textured rubber coating and Kevlar inner liner do a great job of preventing cuts and scrapes. I paid about $10 per pair.
