Pro Sidewinder. The HD 5687 — Skil's attempt to re-enter the pro sidewinder market — has some promising features and a great price. The saw has a wormdrive-style handle, a thick steel footplate that allegedly won't bend when dropped, an 8-foot-long cord, and large bevel and depth-of-cut numbers for those of us whose eyes have seen better days. It can make up to 51-degree cuts through 2-by stock and has a high-torque 2.9-hp ball-bearing motor with a high power-to-weight ratio and a pro on/off switch with no lockout button. It costs $89.
