White-on-white, clean, and minimalistic design has been a staple of bathroom design in recent years. However, this trend is beginning to phase out, according to design experts at kitchen and bath specialty retailer Hausera. Hausera experts say black will replace the popular white-on-white trend beginning in 2020. Black can be used in a number of ways in the bathroom: as a base, in tiles, and with metallic or matte tones. Black may seem like a large deviation from clean and minimalist white-on-white bathrooms, but Hausera experts say there are several reasons why black is a strong color choice in the bathroom.

Black accents marble. Many marble countertops, including bathroom vanities, have hints of black or gray striations throughout. Black accents marble well, and the presence of striations in countertops promotes decoration with other black items to highlight the darker hints in marble.

Black creates a clean aesthetic. White isn't the only color that can give a space a cohesive and clear look. Black can achieve the same effect as white, while also helping spaces look cleaner than all-white spaces. White shows everything on it, while black can hide dust, dirt, and grime better than white.

Black creates depth and mood. Black allows spaces to achieve depth and character more successfully than other colors.

Black makes spaces feel welcoming. Light colors help expand spaces while darker colors, such as black, make spaces feel smaller and cozy. In many cases, the welcoming feeling of a small space is what homeowners want to achieve. Darker shades in a large space can help it have a "homey" feel that may be missing if lighter colors are used.

Black feels unique. The use of black, particularly in a monotone design, is having a moment in interior design. It helps interior spaces have unique and striking appearances that will stand out among the rest and ensure the spaces are memorable and interesting.
