Demo Demon blades are Diablo Tools’ updated carbide-tipped recip blades for cutting nail-embedded wood and for other demolition tasks. In the first video below, taken at a presentation at the STAFDA last month, the improved blade is shown attacking hardened masonry nails embedded in wood—a challenge that stops bimetal demo blades dead in their tracks. Though hardened nails are not something you’d be likely to cut with a recip saw, the demonstration effectively shows how the carbide-tipped blade can cut tougher materials than bimetal teeth. The new blades feature variable-pitch teeth that are finer towards the back and will be made in 6-, 9-, and 12-inch lengths.
The DS0606CW, DS0906CW, and DS1206CW blades will be available beginning Feb. 2016, priced from about $7 to $13—
While we’re on the topic of cutting tough materials , Diablo Tools put on another convincing demonstration, this time highlighting the durability of the carbide teeth on their new 7 1/4-inch construction blade. The blade sailed through a torturous sandwich of lumber, lag bolts, and a few layers of asphalt singles thrown in for good measure. Again, this doesn’t represent what a user would necessarily cut with this blade, but it shows the blade’s ability to survive in abusive conditions more challenging than you may ever run across.
In addition to shock-resistant carbide, the blade also features unique triangular teeth that taper to a centered point. Every third tooth of the blade has this new shape—called a “tracking point”—which Diablo claims helps to align the blade, making it cut straighter and with less vibration. In the second video, Diablo Tools’ new blade (in the saw on the right) shows noticeably faster cutting speed through plywood as it travels down a ramp, feed only by gravity. On the left is a competitor’s blade, which is considerably bogged down.
The D0724 will be available beginning Feb. 2016 priced at about $10.(These blades, available at the same price point as Diablo's current 7 1/4-inch framing blade, will simply be substituted into the existing inventory in stores.) A 6 1/2-inch version for cordless saws will likely follow.
