Is it a trend? The Miami Herald thinks so: using materials recovered from demolition as design elements in remodeling or building projects ("Salvaged goods from old buildings gaining in popularity," by Anthony Cave).
Derek Shambora, owner of an Oakland Park, Florida, home improvement company Eco Simplista, told the paper he checks regularly with demolition contractors in his area, and tries to work salvaged items into every job. Anthony Barrineau, co-owner of Fort Lauderdale-based Alternative Constructors, showed off a master bedroom wall paneled with boards from recycled pallets. And Alfie Hernandez of Dream Maker Builders LLC in Miami put it this way: "We're all blue collar workers. We know someone who can use a toilet."
