Classic Homeworks includes typical costs of several types of remodeling projects on its Web site. “It is helpful for clients to get a sense of what remodeling costs. It sets the realism perspective and helps weed out customers who find out that even our minimal cost would be too much for them,” president Kelli Ortegren says. The Web site lists a complete bathroom remodel at $20,000 and up, a master suite bath remodel at $35,000 and up, a basic kitchen at $55,000 and up, a complete kitchen at $65,000 and up, a basement at $65,000 and up, additions at $200 and up per square foot, and whole-house remodels at $100 and up per square foot. She says the firm works on older homes, which, with deferred maintenance and repair, costs more than projects in newer homes.
Ortegren says that she understands why many remodelers prefer not to include prices on their Web sites. “There is an aspect of not wanting to talk about price before you understand scope of project,” she says. However, she adds, the prices on the company's Web site are a guideline, and she still asks about budget during pre-qualification phone calls. “I have pre-set questions I use to lead them to budget,” she says.
