The American Institute of Timber Construction (AITC) is the national technical trade association of the structural glued laminated (glulam) timber industry. AITC represents a majority of the glued laminated timber manufacturers in the U.S. in addition to a number of installers, suppliers, sales representatives, engineers, architects, designers, and researchers.
Since 1952, the American Institute of Timber Construction has had one name and one focus - structural glued laminated timber. Utilizing the professional talents and extensive experience of its membership base, AITC developed, sponsored and continues to maintain the American National Standard for Structural Glued Laminated Timber - ANSI/AITC A190.1.
The recognition of AITC as the authority in the laminated timber industry is the direct result of the collaborative efforts of its members in the development and maintenance of today's industry design and product standards, the establishment of the benchmark industry quality assurance/inspection/grademark program and laminated timber research.
Glued laminated timber manufactured by qualified licensees of AITC, in conformance with the ANSI/AITC A190.1 Standard, may be identified with the AITC QUALITY INSPECTED grademark, the SYMBOL of QUALITY in ENGINEERED TIMBER since 1963.
