Demand in value terms for aluminum gutters and downspouts will increase 3.4% every year until 2022, according to a forecast today from The Freedonia Group. Total growth for the aluminum segment is projected to increase to 1.6 billion linear feet with the market value reaching $4.0 billion in 2022.
The Cleveland-based research firm says growth will primarily be driven by growth in the residential improvement and repair market, while short-term growth will be influenced by reactionary price increases as a result of the Trump administration's aluminum tariffs. The overall gutters and downspouts market is expected to increase 3.2% annually to $6.0 billion in four years.
According to Freedonia, aluminum is the material most used for gutter systems. However, competition from plastic and steel gutter guards will result in only moderate projected gains for the aluminum gutter guard segment of the industry.
