It’s officially summer, which means your clients will be enjoying their outdoor spaces more than ever. But one way to ruin a good time is a grand view of unsightly siding. And as it provides a crucial layer of protection from the elements, replacing siding that has started to rot, crack, or otherwise degrade will do more for the home than simply beautify it; it also will prevent potentially costly repair work, including from water or insect damage. Trim Smart, Not Hard
What’s siding without a little trim to accent it? LP’s SmartSide trim and fascia come in both smooth and textured varieties and in multiple widths to help give your clients the look they want. Trim comes in both cedar and reversible (smooth on one side, textured on the other) styles. The trim and fascia also are treated with the company’s SmartGuard process, which protects against termites, moisture, and impact damage. The boards come in lengths up to 16 feet so that there will be fewer seams when the product is fully installed.
Sea and the City
Foundry Specialty Siding has introduced two new collections: Uptown and Shoreline. The Uptown collection is a contemporary color line featuring dark hues like Deep Granite, Oceanside, and Russet. Shoreline features fun pastels such as Papaya, Blueberry, and Key Lime (pictured) that the company says will bring a beachy vibe to the home. For even more choices, the collections are available in four styles of Foundry’s vinyl siding. Your clients can choose from shakes, 7-inch shingles, and round or fish-scale-shaped shingles. The panels have a Class 1(A) fire rating and a wind load rating of 170 mph.
Make a Good Impression
CertainTeed has expanded the offerings of its Cedar Impressions line by introducing its new Single 7-inch Perfection Shingles with CedarLife Color Blends (pictured) and Triple 5-inch Straight Edge Sawmill Shingles. The company says that with CertainTeed’s patent-pending manufacturing process, the Perfection shingles’ color goes through the entire shingle and therefore won’t fade. These shingles come in four blends to suit multiple tastes: Natural, Cedar, Driftwood, and Rustic. The Perfection shingles also feature CertainTeed’s TrueTexture finish, which is designed to mimic the texture of real cedar. Panels are 73 1/2 inches long and are 0.90 inch thick. The Straight Edge Sawmill Shingles also feature CertainTeed’s TrueTexture pattern and come in 28 different colors, such as Charcoal Gray, Colonial White, and Autumn Yellow. The shingles are 1/10 inch thick and the panels are 5 feet long.
Shake Up Your Shingles
Ply Gem has introduced its new cedar-inspired PVC shake and shingle line that is reminiscent of coastal homes. The Single 9-inch Hand Split shakes (pictured) and the Single 7-inch Perfection shingles are designed to have a real-wood look and come in 20 different hues. The company says that the color carries through the entire panel, so there won’t be a need for your clients to paint or refinish their shakes or shingles. They are also designed to coordinate with Ply Gem’s other exterior products so that you can create a unified exterior for the whole home. The panels are 8.5 feet long and have a Class 1(A) fire rating.
The Screw’s the Thing
Exterior trim installers will be interested in Simpson Strong-Tie’s special-purpose PVC Trim-Board screw engineered for easy, low-torque installations of PVC trim and fascia onto wood. The maker says the new screw was created in response to customer demand for a fastener with a clean, professional finish in PVC installations. The PVC Trim-Board screw features a triple-threaded design, box-shaped cutter head, and flat underhead to improve pull-through resistance and leave a clean, flush finish. A T-20 bit is included, and the screw’s 6-lobe design helps reduce driver bit cam-outs for longer bit life.
