American Honda has recalled around 340,000 portable generators due to fire and burn hazards, according to an announcement from the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). The recall involves the Honda EB2200i, EU2200i, EU2200i Companion, and EU2200i Camo Portable Generators.
According to the announcement, the generator's inverter assembly can short circuit with the presence of saltwater. As a result, the unit can smoke or catch fire, posing fire and burn hazards to consumers. The manufacturer has received 13 reports of generator's inverter assembly short-circuiting while in use, including 10 reports of fire. However, Honda has not received any reports of injuries or property damage. Honda previously recalled 200,000 portable generators in 2019, which included the Honda EU2200i, EU2200i Companion, and EB2200i Portable Generators.
The portable generators were sold at authorized Honda power equipment dealers, Home Depot, and other home improvement stores nationwide from February 2018 through January 2020. The recalled products were sold with a red of Camo cover with the name "HONDA" and the generator model name printed on the control panel.
Consumers are advised to immediately stop using the recalled generators and contact local service dealers to schedule a free repair. Honda is communicating directly with all known purchasers.
