Remodeler Byron Ledworowski installed a combination radiator/towel warmer to bring heat and comfort to a client's kitchen. The owner of Li'L American Builders, Middleton, Wis., was originally going to use radiant floor heat, but the floor construction would have made it a complicated task. His HVAC contractor recommended the wall-mounted radiator unit from Runtal ( www.runtalnorthamerica.com).
The unit is rated with adequate BTUs to heat the 11-by-13-foot room. The house has an open floor plan, Ledworowski says, so heat from the rest of the house is augmenting the heat from the radiator.
His only concern is the copper pipe that comes out of the wall and connects to the unit. “It needs some type of cover plate on it or we need to build a wood valance. I've asked the HVAC contractor for a solution,” Ledworowski says.
As for this project, the homeowner liked it so much she asked the contractor to remove the toe-kick radiator from the nearby bathroom and replace it with the same type of wall unit.
