Yes, that's right, it's leather. MCM Construction installed the tile on the walls of this powder room and on the floor in the library in the same house, creating a distinctive high-end look for a two-story condominium. Architect Thomas Vivoda of Thomas Vivoda Associates and designer Carol Williamson of Williamson McCarter and Associates designed the project.
Tim Mather, MCM president, says the tile, from Ann Sacks Stone and Tile, comes in 8-by-16-inch squares that consist of a ¼-inch poplar plate wrapped in the oxblood-colored leather. Installing the tile first required Mather's crew to lay a central block of the wall before sending measurements of the remaining wall space to the factory for custom cut pieces.
The tile arrives waxed. The crew added another coat and instructed the homeowners to reapply wax periodically. The manufacturer also provided leather wrapped base moulding and trim for the door jamb.
