Triangle Tube is recalling around 63,000 units of its gas boilers due to the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning for consumers, according to an announcement from the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). The recall involves Prestige Solo & Prestige Excellence condensing gas boilers.
According to the CPSC, flue gas can escape from the gas boilers if the vent adapter is not securely reattached to the boiler after maintenance or repair, posing a carbon monoxide poisoning hazard to consumers. The manufacturer has received one report of a death from carbon monoxide poisoning associated with the recalled boilers in 2016 following a repair where the adapter was not reattached. Triangle Tube has also received two other reports of vent tube adapter separation from the recalled boilers.
The boilers were sold at wholesale distributors and installed by independent contractors across the United States from November 2011 through July 2020. The recall involves 22 models of the Prestige Solo & Prestige Excellence condensing boilers manufacturer for residential and light construction use. The wall-hung condensing boilers are housed in a white metal box. "Prestige" is printed on the white front panel and on the outside of the cardboard packing box. The CPSC includes a full list of serial numbers involved in the recall in its announcement.
The CPSC recommends consumers with recalled boilers contact the manufacturer for repairs. However, in-home remedies may be delayed due to coronavirus (COVID-19) restrictions, according to the CPSC.
