Get your client to spend more on a grander entry door and you could increase the home's curb appeal by more than you may think. Therma-Tru, manufacturers of fiberglass entry doors, recently commissioned a study by an independent research firm to investigate the impact of the entryway on a home's perceived value.

Study participants, qualified by age and income as typical home buyers, were asked to estimate the value of several homes, based solely on their appearance. The control group viewed three homes with standard six-panel entry doors. The second group studied the same three homes, but upgraded with fiberglass entry doors with decorative glass, side lights, and transoms.

In all three cases, the enhanced entry doors increased the perceived estimated value of each home by 3.2% to 6.6%, or a difference of $13,650 to $24,840. The home shown above was estimated at $403,470 with a standard door by the control group and at $428,310 with a more elaborate system.

"According to the research, the added perceived value of an enhanced entryway was four to five times the investment," said Jerry Oleshansky, Therma-Tru's VP of sales and marketing, in a press release.
