This powder room vanity was designed to make a small space appear less crowded, while still providing ample storage.
Ed Linderman of Linderman Designs in Costa Mesa, Calif., says the curved, 25-inch-deep bump-out allowed him to fit the room with a full-sized sink, while the shallower 18-inch-deep side cabinets accommodate the swing of the entry door. "If we had pulled out the counter for the full-sized sink, the door would have nicked the countertop," Linderman says.
The homeowners also wanted the vanity to look like a furniture piece, so the designer specified a glazed finish on alder wood and included fluted details and trim and a carved toe kick. To tie the vanity design to the architecture of the house, Linderman created the curve to echo the arched windows.
Linderman says fabricating curved cabinets requires precision to make the doors fit together correctly. His shop foreman is a former yacht builder who likes the challenge of creating curves.
