With an eye toward developers of multifamily projects, Wahoo Decks has started producing prefabricated aluminum balconies.
The Gainesville, Ga., maker of aluminum decking and deck drainage systems says Wahoo Complete balconies include railing, framing, and decking all in one package.
Support for the structures depends on the design of the building; the balconies can be rod-hung, knee-braced, or supported by posts or cantilevered beams, Wahoo says. Wahoo engineers design each project to meet building specifications, and provide construction drawings—as well as on-site consultation—for installation.
For walking surfaces, there are two options: the company’s AridDek aluminum decking or its DryJoistEZ system, which incorporates structural joists capped with low-maintenance decking.
The powder-coated aluminum balconies are manufactured with 50 percent scrap aluminum. Assemblies are fireproof, Wahoo says, and will keep debris, dirt, and water from falling on the deck below.
The company sells the balconies directly to developers and general contractors. Pricing depends on the project.
