In response to an unfair trade petition by U.S. manufacturers of hardwood plywood, the U.S. Commerce Department is going to impose up to a 27% duty on imported Chinese plywood.
The petition was filed last year by the Coalition for Fair Trade of Hardwood Plywood (CFTHP) and claims Chinese companies are being subsidized by their government and selling hardwood plywood at dumped prices.
CFTHP member companies represent approximately 80% of domestic production and include: Columbia Forest Products, Commonwealth Plywood Co. Ltd., Murphy Plywood, Roseburg Forest Products Co., States Industries LLC and Timber Products Co.
In 2011 the U.S. imported more than $600 million worth of hardwood plywood from China.
