The Festool Carvex 420 brings a number of innovative features to the jigsaw. The tool’s brushless motor makes for lighter weight and less maintenance. For increased accuracy, four LEDs illuminate the blade and are strobed to the timing of the stroke, so the moving blade looks like it’s standing still. A triple-point guidance system stabilizes the blade and, according to the saw’s maker, allows for wander-free cutting in material up to 4 3/4 inches thick. The rear-mounted cord can hinge to the vertical position, making it easier to work in tight quarters. Several footplates are available, including one hinged at the center that can be adjusted to cut a miter along inside and outside corners. Compatible with Festool’s dust-collection system, the Carvex comes in corded and cordless D-handle and barrel-grip models. Price: $350 corded, $550 cordless.
