The Conturo edge bander melts “pucks” of adhesive and uses it to adhere band material to the edges of straight and curved pieces. In large shops these tasks are performed with industrial-size stationary machines. Small enough to fit in two Systainers, the Conturo and associated tools (The Perfect Edge System) are easy to store and portable enough to take to the jobsite—should the work need to be performed there. It uses the same type of adhesive and band material used by industrial machines.
Festool brought a prototype of this tool to last year’s Festool Connect, which took place at JLC LIVE in Providence, RI. This year they brought a production model to the show, and released the product for sale in the U.S. this week. I was at the show and was able to shoot the following video with millwork installer Brian Way and Festool trainer Brian Sedgeley.
