Milwaukee recently released a new set of warnings and instructions meant to inform users of additional safety information related to its M18 High Demand 9.0 battery packs. This notice is NOT a recall; there’s nothing wrong with the batteries and there’s no need to return them; Milwaukee simply seeks to inform users of additional safety information based on data it found during recent additional testing. The company is working along with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) to inform users of the potential risks.

What do the warnings relate to? Highly conductive or corrosive liquids such as sea water, some industrial chemicals, bleach, and bleach-containing products. Milwaukee says that should these fluids get inside the M18 High Demand 9.0 battery pack “in sufficient quantities, it can cause battery pack failure.” A battery pack can fail in this scenario by short-circuiting which could result in smoking or fire – even when the battery is just sitting around after the exposure and not in use.
