Makita unveiled the HR4013C rotary hammer at this Year’s World of Concrete. While there, I saw an interesting demonstration of the tool’s anti-vibration technology (video below). It consists of three parts: air-actuated counterbalance pistons, an integrated damper spring, and a vibration-absorbing housing that allows the main handle and housing to move independently of the motor and drive mechanism. Working together, these mechanisms are said to reduce vibration by 45% from the previous model—and so, make the tool easier and more comfortable to use for extended periods of time.
The HR4013C has two modes of operation, chipping only or hammering with rotation. It takes SDS-MAX bits and delivers 11.4 Joules (8.4 ft. lbs) of impact energy—20% more than the previous model. A one-touch sliding chuck allows for quick bit changes and 24 different angle settings for chisels. The tool has a torque limiting clutch and a trigger that can be locked on in chipping mode.
