With deck season in full swing, many of you are probably mixing a lot of concrete. As John Carroll points out in his review of the Collomix Xo 4 Portable Power Mixer, “Mixing mortar or concrete by hand in a wheelbarrow is always an option, but pushing a hoe through stiff, heavy mud gets old in a hurry.” Indeed.
Carroll tried using a ½-in. drill fitted with a paddle, but found the drill underpowered and hard to control. Then he noticed two-handled Collomix Xo 1 mixers that drywall finishers and tile setters use. He decided to check out the manufacturer’s website to see if they had any mixers meant for heavier material like mortar and concrete. That’s when he first discovered the Collomix Xo 4, which cost $207 and turned out to be, as Carroll says, “money well-spent”.
