Like all model codes, the Council of American
Building Officials' Model Energy Code (CABOMEC)
changes over time. Every three years CABO
revises the document through the same kind of consensus
procedure it uses to update its One- and Two-
Family Dwelling Code.
From there, the story gets more complicated. States
and localities can choose for themselves to use CABOMEC
as their energy code, to adopt just parts of it, to
create their own energy code, or to have no energy
code at all. So depending on where you build, you
may or may not have to work with CABO-MEC.
