Engineered Wood
Helps ... A Little
by Patrick J. Galvin
The kitchen industry has entered a
new era of engineered woods.
Engineered woods were supposed to
solve all of the industry's wood
problems. They solved some, but
they brought a few new ones of their
own.
By 1973, the kitchen industry
already relied heavily on the first
engineered wood product-
laminates scored as well or better.
Incidentally, United Cabinet (now
Aristokraft) introduced this fantastic
new finish on its lowest-priced line of
cabinets.
Other answers to surfacing
particleboard included polyesters,
acrylics, vinyls, and urethanes. Since
they all are 100 percent convertible
to solids, there is no shrinkage-and
particleboard. In early 1971, one one filling operation does the job.
