Period-inspired kitchens may be a no-no according to our inresidence
restorer Walt Jowers (see his column this issue), but
some folks use the past to inspire the future. Don Silvers, an
independent kitchen designer and consultant in the Los Angeles
area, collects old kitchen equipment, and most of his
collection is currently on display at the Kitchen Specialist
showroom in West L. A.
Although they may look like instruments of torture (and may
have felt so by the user from time to time) all of these items were
at one time thought to be "modern-day conveniences." Can
