Not long after being honored with a Big50 award (2003), Chuck Green realized he wanted to decrease the stress he felt running Four Corners Construction, in Ashland, Mass. He slashed the number of staff to just himself and a part-timer, with Green doing work he most enjoys — supervising in the field. He now has more time for the serious pursuit of something else he loves — filmmaking.
Green had studied the art in college but hadn't pursued it. A year ago he decided to set up a video business, Perpetual Motion Pictures. He's working on an instructional video for a client who owns a boat rental business; is finalizing funding for two jazz videos, one about stride piano, the other about Boston's jazz musician Stan Strickland; and recently he made a 20-minute video about certification and continuing education for his Eastern Massachusetts National Association of the Remodeling Industry chapter, which seemed to have an impact on the number of people signing up. “I've made a nice promo piece for my remodeling company, and I see a good part of my work creating marketing tools for high-end remodeling companies to show off their businesses,” Green says.
But he's not giving up remodeling anytime soon. “After all these years, it's not right to walk away,” he says. “It feels very right to have the mix for now.”
